Our Vision

“A mature, united, witnessing and transforming Church.”

Our Mission

The Presbyterian Church in Rwanda (EPR) expresses its mission through three connected commitments:

  1. To evangelize by proclaiming the love and salvation offered by God in Jesus Christ.
  2. To contribute to the promotion of the integral and integrated well-being of human beings through testimonial social works.
  3. To help transform women and men into agents of change in society.

Long-term strategic direction

EPR has developed a 25-year strategic plan to guide its short-, medium- and long-term priorities. The plan updates the Church’s strategic orientations and serves as a guide for institutional action and shared responsibility.

Our history and development

The Presbyterian Church in Rwanda traces its beginnings to 1907, when Protestant missionaries established early mission stations in Rwanda. The Church became independent in 1959. EPR began a decentralisation process in 2008, and the General Synod established the seven-presbytery structure in March 2014.

These milestones are drawn from EPR’s published institutional history and are presented as historical context.

How EPR is organised

EPR’s public institutional background identifies seven presbyteries: Gitarama, Gisenyi, Kigali, Kirinda, Remera, Rubengera and Zinga. The central directory identifies five departments: Church Growth, Education, Administration and Finance, Development and Diakonia, and Health.

The Office of the General Synod coordinates presbytery activities and central administration. EPR identifies its strategic plan period as 2018–2042.
